SETUPS

A guitar’s playability can be affected by temperature, humidity, string gauge and just general wear and tear. Each guitar is different and certain areas will need more attention than others, this is why when you bring your guitar in for a set up, we will conduct a thorough assessment to establish your particular needs.

The following issues are a tell-tale sign that your guitar needs a setup: Fret buzz, Hard to play, High action, Action too low, Tuning issues, Strings slipping, String breakages (even new strings)

It is sometimes necessary to level out high frets or frets that have dents due to excessive playing in one area on the neck. Fret dressing involves straightening the neck, levelling the frets and then polishing them for a smooth finish.

A standard setup includes: Restring, Fretboard clean, Fretboard recondition (if applicable), Truss rod adjustments, Intonation set, Bridge height set, Nut slots filed, Hardware tightened, Electrics cleaned, Clean and polish, Pickup heights set, Sharp burs removed.

RE-STRINGS

Strings need to be changed fairly often and we can help to get them fitted correctly to avoid breakages. We re-string all kinds of guitars:

  • Electric

  • Classical (nylon)

  • Acoustic (Steel string and 12-string)

  • Ukulele (nylon)

  • Bass (flat wound and round wound)

STRUCTURAL REPAIRS

Some instruments may require more complex work in order to get them back to playing their best. These include: nut replacement, saddle replacement, headstock repair, truss rod replacement, neck reset, acoustic bridge removal, brace repair and more. When you book an appointment, we’ll conduct a thorough assessment of your instrument to work out exactly what work needs doing. Damage to the neck, headstock and truss rod can all affect how your guitar plays.
